The International Vocational Education Standard Committee (IVESC) played a crucial role in supporting a recent vocational education initiative. In collaboration with the RES4Africa Technical and Vocational School, the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Eritrea, the program marked the successful completion of its first technical and vocational training session, aimed at advancing renewable energy solutions in Eritrea and across Africa.
This training, hosted by RES4Africa, with support from the Enel Foundation and other international partners, took place in Asmara, Eritrea, as part of the 34th edition of the Mini-Grid Academy program. It brought together experts from various institutions to receive high-quality technical instruction in the development and application of renewable energy, particularly for lighting and productive uses. This initiative is a testament to the commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions and building a workforce capable of addressing Africa’s growing energy demands.
The first training session, held from September 18th to 21st, 2024, focused on two modules: Decentralized Energy Systems and DRE Site Selection and Engineering. The 30 participants engaged in interactive lectures from international experts, supplemented by e-learning resources. At the conclusion of the training, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their newly acquired skills.
The program will continue with additional sessions in November and December 2024. These will cover System Design, Operation & Maintenance (O&M), and Safety (Module 3), as well as EPC, Economics, and Regulatory Frameworks (Module 4), and will include field visits for practical experience.
By equipping participants with technical, economic, and regulatory expertise, the program not only addresses key energy challenges but also promotes social inclusion. IVESC’s contribution to this initiative strengthens its role in ensuring high standards in vocational education globally, as it helps build a professional network dedicated to advancing Africa’s renewable energy future.
